Celebrating Child and Youth in Care Week
Child and Youth in Care Week is all about celebrating the achievements, strength, and spirit of young people in and from government care across Saskatchewan.
Back in 2013, at our Born to Lead Conference, we asked young people to dream big. They told us, “We’re more than the stigma.” They envisioned a week to shine a light on their accomplishments and resilience—and they made it happen! Young people from care created powerful artwork, poetry, postcards, and more, which SYICCN Inc. submitted to the Minister of Social Services at the time, June Draude. They asked for an official week to celebrate youth in care, and in 2015, we launched our first Child and Youth in Care Week!
Since then, this week has been a time to challenge stereotypes and uplift every victory, big and small. Let’s keep celebrating each journey and accomplishment!
