In Saskatchewan, young people in care age out of the system at 18 or 21. Transitioning into adulthood, out of foster care and/or custody is a pivotal moment for every young young person.
With the right information, preparation, and access to meaningful supports, transitioning from care can go smoothly.
Through public speaking, advocacy, presentations, peer-to-peer training, social media, etc. the SYICCN is charged with ensuring that youth in and from care are aware of their rights while in care.
Government care is the term we use to describe any young person under the care of the Government.
In Saskatchewan, government care specifically refers to young people under the care of the Ministry of Social Services, and/or with youth custody involvement.
